I was born and raised in Buncombe county and graduated from Erwin High School in 2000. After graduation from high school I atteneded Haywood Community College for one year and then transfered to North Carolina State University.
While in college I majored in agriculutre education and concentrated in animal science. In December of 2011 I completed my Master's Degree in Agriculture Education at North Carolina Agriculture & Technical State University.
I am married to my wonderful wife Michelle, and have two boys, Caleb and Cole. Our family raises beef cattle, horned- Correiente cattle, operates a lawn care and firewood business on the side. Caleb, Cole, and I enjoy team roping and trail riding.
"Agriculture and FFA allows students to challenge themselves in a supportive environment to do things they may not otherwise have the opportunity to do, and in the process, discover a talent or passion they didn't know they had." - Dave Penland
Mr. Penland is able to incorporate math, science, and leadership skills into his curriculum.
